Start with the landscape
The dunes of Erg Chebbi are the visual landmark of Merzouga, but the surroundings change quickly: open stony ground, tracks, villages and oasis areas give a different perspective. A viewpoint stop provides time to get out, take photographs and understand the route before moving on.
Tell us if photos are a priority or if you prefer fewer stops and more time at each one. The route and safe driving line change with conditions, so the driver confirms the exact plan locally.
Khamlia and the music
Khamlia is associated with Gnawa music. A visit can be a meaningful cultural stop when musicians are available and the group has time to stay and listen. It is best arranged with care: ask whether a performance is possible, how long you will spend there and whether a contribution is expected.
A brief stop cannot replace a longer conversation or performance. If this matters to you, make it a priority when we design your route rather than treating it as a passing photo opportunity.
Mifis, the oasis and local visits
The Mifis area offers views of a former mining landscape and a contrast with the dunes. Visits should remain on appropriate accessible ground; it is a landscape stop, not an invitation to enter unsafe workings.
The oasis near Hassi Labied can add a greener landscape to a longer route. A visit with a local family must be arranged respectfully in advance and is never an automatic inclusion. The seasonal Dayet Srij lake may be dry, and wildlife cannot be guaranteed.
Museum and a longer itinerary
If you are interested in vehicles, ask to include the 4×4 car museum near Merzouga. Opening hours, admission and the distance from other stops need to be confirmed for your date. Rissani is a separate town outing and is better suited to a longer plan than to a rushed loop around the dunes.
A shorter tour may focus on viewpoints plus one cultural stop; a longer tour leaves room for several stops and a meal if arranged. We will confirm the order, duration, entrance fees and any optional contributions before booking.
How to request the right route
Tell us your travel date, accommodation, group size and available hours. Name your must-see stops and any walking or accessibility needs. We can then suggest a realistic route and explain where pickup and return take place.
The quote should state what is included: vehicle and driver, duration, pickup, any meals, museum admission and music contributions. Only the confirmed itinerary is part of the booking.
